Jason earned an MBA at the Schulich School of Business, York University, Canada specializing in international business & marketing. His undergraduate work was completed at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, where he earned an economics degree. Jason has negotiated and facilitated numerous investment and partnership agreements with large multi-national corporations. Jason has been involved with many technology companies working on operations, business development and marketing strategies. He is also a former professional football player, seasoned investor and has built several successful businesses.
Chief Technology Officer
Frank is a physicist cross trained in both electrical and mechanical engineering with broad business experience in a wide range of technology. As a technology executive, with many years of industry experience in various executive roles including Chief Engineer, CTO and CEO, Frank has been involved with both commercial and government technology programs and start-up planning and execution. Notable industry activities include: Principle Investigator on SBIR Programs in Smart Grid, Systems Health, and Software Based Decision Support for systems engineering; Product and service development leading to corporate diversification and growth; Engineering and Research Engineer for Laser Systems; Energetic Materials; and Titanium processing through the DARPA Titanium Program.
Frank represents ATV as an entrepreneur in residence at The Oregon Health & Science University. He has also served as a participant in advisory boards for the University of Arizona, including; Joint Ground Robotics Enterprise (JGRE), strategic planning for US Navy adoption of Alternative Energy Systems; and for development of UAS Standards with the RTCA, an advisory organization for the FAA. In the aerospace industry, Frank is familiar with DO-160, DO-178, and DO-254 qualification standards for aircraft systems and equipment and ISO and AS9100 quality systems.

Craig Taggart provides almost a decade of experience in the fields of Mergers & Acquisitions and Business Financing. Craig works with each client at the highest level to achieve the highest value for their business within the capital markets. Craig’s experience with BCC Capital Partners in the M&A Industry has greatly contributed to his understanding of transaction structure, strategic placement of buyers, and the attainment of maximum market value for his clients. Craig has represented and sold many businesses in a number of different industries and has significant experience working with companies in: Exclusive focus on select subsectors of life sciences, immunooncology, hemophilia, genomics, respiratory, Pharmaceutical services, Diagnostic products and services in biotechnology and commercial real estate.
Dr. Donald Thomas III
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Thomas graduated from Howard University College of Medicine with an M.D. in Medicine and earned his A.B. in Physical Science and Genetics at Harvard University. He also created and reshaped clinical care delivery systems in 30+ healthcare organizations in the northern hemisphere, including healthcare systems, hospitals, clinics, group practices and an insurance provider medical bureau, while delivering increased quality, patient satisfaction and metrics, in addition to significant new dollars to the organizational bottom lines. He is a relentless problem solver and is especially suited to working in situations that are not functioning at their peak. He is also CMO for L.A. County Health Dept (.8B budget, 22,000 employees,3,500 MDs, 6 hospitals, 6 urgent care centers and 126 clinics)

Dr. Sonny Rai
After completing a bachelor’s degree from Pacific University, Oregon, Sonny earned his MD from the American program at Karol Marcinkowski Medical School, Poland. He brings over a decade of broad therapeutic pharmaceutical & medical device strategy consulting and advisory experience as well as executive director level roles in the start-up space. Sonny’s passion for innovation and his engineering spirit lead him into robotics, neuroscience and A.I. while at Cyberworks Robotics Inc. Sonny is a conscious futurist and desires to see humans advance with higher quality of life and a more patient-centric and personalized medicine approach. He believes that technologies used in a smart collective way will help in building the right infrastructure as we move through the 4th industrial revolution to better serve and evolve us as a human race.
Chief Marketing Officer
A former U.S. Navy pilot, Don started his business career with The Service Bureau Company as a Systems Marketing Exec after leaving military service in 1978. In that role, Don participated in the implementation of some of the early Yield Management Systems at Delta, Northwest and Piedmont Airlines. Subsequent executive and managerial positions at IBM, Control Data and KPMG over the next 23 years afforded Don the opportunity to gain valuable experience with some of the largest and most successful solutions companies in the world.
In 2001, Don started Fresh Eyes Consulting with a focus on Sales Effectiveness and Sales Execution. Over the next 15 years, Don has worked directly with technology leaders such as SalesForce.com, Netapp, Cisco Systems, Riverbed Technologies and Rockwell Automation to help those organization design and implement processes that would produce predictable and repeatable results.
Having remained active in the aviation industry after leaving the Navy, Don accepted a consulting engagement in 2011 with a Part 121 Supplemental Air Carrier as that carrier’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. In that role, Don was able to help reestablish that carrier’s 121 certification and to establish an OEM agreement with an international aircraft manufacturer to sell their new aircraft in the United States.

Dr. Angie Purvis
Chief Quality and Regulatory Officer
Angie completed her PhD (Biochemistry) and post-doctoral training at Washington University at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in the field of Hematology/Oncology. Since leaving academia, she has held several executive positions with medical device and diagnostics companies. Dr. Purvis is a board-certified CLIA Laboratory Director for high-complexity testing across the USA and through the New York State Department of Health. She has experience building and optimizing lean-based, CLIA laboratories and establishing and maintaining a high level of Quality within all laboratory processes.
Vincent graduated from Imperial College London with an MBA. During his studies he received the Dean’s Award for Inspiring Brilliant Minds for his work with the campus Entrepreneurship Club along with the Joan Woodward Memorial Prize. He was also a Microsoft Student Partner, Education Committee Student Representative and studied abroad for part of his degree at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Prior to pursuing an MBA, Vincent worked for a variety of technology and entertainment companies in various roles, including marketing, project management and strategy. He has worked for global firms such as IBM and Sony along with a number of startups and independent companies such as giffgaff, Jagex, Giggling Starfish, and The News Hub. He has helped launch dozens of products, ranging from fintech platforms to video games and ecommerce sites. He is a certified product manager, company coach and has nearly a decade of experience in leadership and management roles. Vincent has lived in eight countries on three different continents and thus brings an international perspective and deep understanding of global business practices to ATV.
Winson Li is a former Private Equity Analyst with experience in valuation analysis, in-depth market research and company due diligence. Prior to joining ATV, Winson was a consultant for business development, marketing and third party negotiation strategies for start-ups and mature businesses in technology and e-Commerce. Winson holds an Honours in Business Administrative Studies, specialized in Finance, from York University.
David S. Murayama

David obtained his MBET degree at the University of Waterloo, Canada specializing in new ventures and innovation management, and his BSc in Economics at Suffolk University, US. David has extensive experience as an early-stage business consultant with proven ability in evaluating trends, business models and strategies for a variety of industries. Previously he worked in business development and operations with an M&A firm; consulted for a number of early-stage technology companies in the life science space, collaborated with a non-profit organization in publishing an industry report about the state of vertical farming, and worked with the Mexican Mission to the United Nations in the green economy space.
Rory obtained his Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) degree from the Asper School of Business (University of Manitoba) where he focused on Entrepreneurship, Business Planning and Marketing. Rory is passionate about the start-up world and previously worked with an early stage healthcare company where he facilitated and oversaw several multi-million dollar acquisitions in addition to leading all business development efforts. Throughout his career he has played an integral role in securing partnerships with several publicly traded companies and has experience working in both the private and public sectors.
Mackenzie joined Academic Technology Ventures in 2018 from Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), where he structured financial derivative products for the investment banks’ clients and worked on developing strategic initiatives across film, entertainment, technology, and real estate. Prior to MUFG, Mackenzie worked as an Analyst at Harvey & Company, an M&A advisory firm in Newport Beach, California where he evaluated new investment opportunities and supported existing portfolio companies within the distribution and manufacturing space.
Mackenzie has always had a passion for start-ups and technology innovation, founding his own mobile app and serving as an advisor for a successful Los Angeles based internet marketing start-up. He has also been a guest speaker including most recently presenting a TEDx Talk on the importance of face-to-face communication in a world of technology and social media. After playing soccer semi-professionally for Toronto FC’s Academy team, Mackenzie graduated with honors from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, where he earned his BBA in Finance with a focus in Entrepreneurship.

Veronika earned her MBA degree from Rotman School of Management at University of Toronto, with specialization in Brand Management. Veronika brings extensive experience in marketing, e-commerce and sales to the team. During her MBA studies she focused on brand management, data analytics and behavioral economics. This has given her additional knowledge and skills towards the best practices for marketing products and services by bringing together the latest approaches in both data and psychology.
Prior to pursuing her MBA, Veronika worked for a number of companies in a marketing and sales capacity. These ranged from budding startups to large corporations such as Sony and Johnson & Johnson. She drove the launch of the PlayStation 4 online store in the EMEA&NZ regions, and worked on pioneering initiatives in content marketing, data analysis and e-commerce. Her professional career has taken her around the world and as such she brings a wealth of international experience and insights. Outside of work, she loves being outdoors and reading sci-fi. Her dream is to do a stand-up comedy show one day.
Liz is highly experienced as a marketing & sales consultant focusing on brand identity development, psychology of consumer buying habits, sales process architecture & implementation, and has specialized training in product launch techniques from the top consultancy firms in the USA. She has been named and awarded “The Visionary” from Ford Motor Co. and named by Univision Communications “The Best of Our Community” for creative community initiatives. She has developed numerous corporate brand identities, merchandise package designs, sales systems, and launched new products & brands within various industries: aviation, restaurant, automotive & motorcycle, cosmetics & numerous others. She earned a bachelor of science degree (w/honors) from the University of Texas San Antonio and is a licensed FAA private pilot. In her spare time she trains & participates in triathlons and produces video documentaries on social causes.

Most recently, she conducted high impact consultation with executive level staff to develop an account list which included software systems management for over 50 hospitals; providing over 50,000 beds. Franko has professional leadership & communication experienced gained from serving honorably in the US ARMY (Op. Joint Endeavor) and has earned various healthcare degrees; Nursing (BS), Univ. of Phoenix, Nursing (AAS), Clark College.
Sandy brings 25 years of professional writing and skills as a direct response copywriter with a focus in the financial field. Her writing helps clients understand the benefits of a product and want to take action. She is skilled in web content, articles, and business to business writing, including brochures, case studies, white papers and ghost book writing. Sandy graduated from the University of California at Davis with a BA (with honors.) She has studied entrepreneurship and the Product Launch Formula. She’s an investor and owner of a real estate business. She and her husband spent 18 months in Kenya helping local non-profit group leaders learn ethics, leadership and organizational skills. Sandy is creative, innovative, and solution oriented.
